How to Handle a Dental Emergency

Even though we are currently closed for elective dental procedures, Precision Facial Esthetics is open to handle your dental emergencies and issues needing prompt attention. We are taking extra precautions to prevent the spread of disease. Don’t put off taking care of the following dental emergencies or they can develop into more serious and more expensive problems.

Knocked-Out or Chipped Teeth

A knocked-out permanent tooth or a chipped tooth should be dealt with immediately to increase the chances that the tooth can be saved. First, find the tooth or pieces of the tooth. Carefully pick up the tooth from the crown. Touching the root can cause damage and make it less likely to heal. If your tooth is in pieces, find as many as you can. Gently wash debris from the tooth or tooth pieces with water. Slip the tooth back into the socket if you can. That’s the safest place for it. You can hold it in place by biting down on a piece of gauze. Even if you are able to reinsert the tooth yourself, it is important to come to the office as soon as possible.

Cracked Tooth

If you crack a tooth we’ll want to see you as soon as possible but it isn’t as urgent as a knocked-out tooth. A mouth rinse of ½ c. warm water and ½ t. salt can help you feel more comfortable and ward off infection. Call our office and we’ll get you in promptly. You are in good hands with Dr. Sekhon when it comes to tooth restorations.

Tooth Pain

There are many things that can cause tooth pain so always call us for instructions. We can identify what is causing the problem and put a stop to your pain. A fever or an abscess indicates the presence of infection. Therefore, we’ll want to see you right away to keep the infection from worsening.

Broken or Damaged Crown or Denture

If you have a crown or denture that isn’t functioning properly or is broken, Precision Facial Esthetics offers a full suite of services to restore your smile. We can replace a crown in a single same day visit with our state-of-the-art CEREC® machine. We also offer full and partial dentures. Although repairing broken restorations isn’t technically a same day emergency, it is definitely considered urgent so it can be taken care of before full restrictions are lifted.
