Do you cover your mouth with your hand when smiling or avoid it entirely, feel hesitant to engage in social activities, and/or struggle with eating because of missing teeth? If so, it’s time to consider your tooth replacement options to restore your smile’s function and appearance. A dental bridge, for example, can replace the teeth that you’ve lost and give you the confidence to smile again!
What Are Dental Bridges?
A dental bridge literally bridges a gap caused by a missing tooth. Bridges have worked wonders for many of our patients by restoring their smile’s normal function and appearance.
Types of Bridges
An anchored bridge consists of a replacement tooth attached to nearby abutment teeth. The abutment teeth are CEREC® dental crowns placed over the natural teeth. These serve as stabilization for the custom-made bridge. For those missing multiple teeth in a row, a dental bridge can also be secured via crowns placed over dental implants instead of natural teeth. Small titanium rods are surgically implanted below the gums into the jawbone to serve as replacement tooth roots. Because an implant-supported bridge is a much more invasive process and sufficient jawbone density is required to support the implant, not every patient is a good candidate.
